If you have ever had this thought when looking at your legs, in the pool, on the beach… don’t let it happen to you again. Procrastination is a human attitude, which in one way or another affects us all in some aspect of our lives. It is very common that during the winter months, by not exposing our legs, we are not so aware of the problem of varicose veins. Likewise, the cold makes the symptoms of venous insufficiency (heaviness, pain, cramps…) improve, even disappear.

All of this creates the “perfect storm” so that year after year, summer after summer, we continue to see varicose veins on our legs, as we have not taken advantage of the winter season to get rid of them.

IS IT TRUE THAT VARICOSE VEINS CANNOT BE TREATED IN SUMMER?

Technically, varicose veins can be treated during the hot months, taking certain precautions. In fact, there are countries and geographical areas where, due to their climatic characteristics, it can be said that it is “summer” almost all year round. Even so, vascular surgeons from these countries treat their patients. However, since we have seasonality, it is more convenient to take advantage of this fact and avoid the inconveniences of the heat.

The main problems would be:

Sun exposure and pigmentation (skin spots )

The treatments themselves for removing varicose veins can sometimes cause a certain degree of pigmentation. This pigmentation usually disappears on its own, although it may take months. If these spots are exposed to the sun, it will be more difficult to remove them.

-Heat and compression stockings

Compression stockings are very useful and recommended during some of the varicose vein removal treatments. It is obvious how unbearable these types of stockings can be in hot summers.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET TREATMENT?

Ideally, patients should come for an assessment after the summer ( from September to November ) with the intention of scheduling the type of treatment and the number of sessions needed. In this way, specific sessions can be scheduled for each specific patient. Generally speaking, patients usually require an average of 3 to 5 sessions for treatment. Obviously, this will depend greatly on the number and severity of the varicose veins. These sessions are spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, so you need to allow a minimum of 3 months to leave your legs in the best possible condition.

As with so many things, haste is not a good counselor in this type of treatment. The ideal is to prolong them over time, for a better result.

Taking all this into account, MY ADVICE TO START ERASING THOSE VARICOSE VEINS: CALL NOW AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN EVALUATION IN SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER.

THIS YEAR WILL NOT PASS… NEXT SUMMER WITHOUT VARICOSE VEINS!
