This November has been an active month from a scientific point of view for Dr Octavio Cosín. After the interruption of medical conferences and courses due to the pandemic, we have witnessed an autumn full of events.
Vascular Autumn!
On November 4-6, the XXXVI Congress of SACAVA (Andalusian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery) took place in Jaén. All types of pathologies were discussed, with special attention to aortic endovascular surgery, although there was no shortage of presentations of all kinds, both arterial and venous. There were guests of national and international renown, as well as live surgeries.
Dr. Octavio Cosín was invited by the organization, as proctor and collaborator of the multinational MERIT VASCULAR, to give a presentation-workshop on the use of the Clarivein® catheter.
In the presentation entitled: MECHANICAL-CHEMICAL ABLATION OF SAPHENE AXES OUTSIDE THE OPERATING ROOM. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, the doctor reminded the attendees of the fundamentals of using the CLARIVEIN® device to replace conventional surgery performed in the operating room, which consists of removing the saphenous vein.
He also reviewed his experience with this device since 2014, which has allowed him to perform more than 1,000 interventions and he was able to share its tricks, virtues and limitations.
Fig 1: Dr. Cosín, emphasizing the disruptive concept that new endovenous techniques have brought to the treatment of thick varicose veins dependent on diseased saphenous veins, without the need to undergo surgery.
Fig. 2: Another great contribution of minimally invasive techniques such as Clarivein® is that it has opened a door of hope to patients who were previously rejected for conventional surgery due to being overweight, having other debilitating diseases or due to age.
Later, on November 11 and 12, the VENOUS PATHOLOGY UPDATE CONFERENCES organized by SERVEI (Spanish Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology) also took place at the San Sebastian Aquarium.
Dr Cosín was invited again by the organizing committee to moderate a round table discussion and to give a lecture on the treatment of venous ulcers. He stressed the importance of addressing all aspects of the care of a venous ulcer, but especially its minimally invasive treatment, in order to heal it and prevent recurrences.
Fig. 3: In the presentation they showed the main strategies to deal with the treatment of venous ulcers, both with sclerotherapy and with intravenous catheter techniques such as Flebogrif®, of which Dr. Cosín is also a trainer.
